Dogs, cats, horses, snakes, insects and people — pet owners, representatives of 40 institutions and 20,000 spectators attended a pet carnival at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Sunday.
The event included games, an exhibition and charitable adoptions.
"I hope participants can learn proper pet keeping and make more friends by experiencing the harmonious relationship between humans and pets," said Deng Yiqun, vice-president of the university.
The event was launched in 2002. Sixteen sessions were held before the COVID-19 pandemic brought a suspension in the past three years.
The carnival has been an important occasion for students to put their knowledge into practice, said Shi Dayou, a professor in the university's College of Veterinary Medicine.
